Football club scores high
with donation from Raglan
The Dover Crescent Tenants Association in
Putnoe, Bedford came to the aid of a group of young people within
the area who needed support in setting up a football club.
The members of the Tenants Association were aware that
Raglan actively supports a variety of community initiatives. The
Association approached Raglan and as a result £200 was donated to
the team to enable them to purchase equipment to help them get
started as a football club.
The following article will give an insight into how the football
club began and their progress so far, it is written by Jivan
Carpenter, a member of the Putnoe Football Club:
Putnoe Football Club began when a number of young
Raglan Tenants felt a 'kick about' just didn't cut it any more. A
six a side football league presented the perfect opportunity and
P.F.C was formed, organised by some of the more mature tenants of
Raglan.
The rag-tag group stumbled blindly into the league not knowing what
to expect, and soon found out that a hard road to success was
ahead. The management stepped up to the challenge, and powerful
think-tanks put their minds to training the young recruits.
Along with a very generous donation from Raglan Housing
Association and the rigorous training program put in place, P.F.C
management were able to equip the team with the necessary
strategies, skills and above all, discipline that was required to
meet the challenge.
After a rocky and inconsistent performance in the first season
rendering P.F.C at position six-out-of-eight, our football at times
has shown flare and courage. We currently hold
position four-out-of-eight in the league, and will continue to
battle to the end in the name of P.F.C and Raglan Housing
Association.
Well done, and thanks to all the players, the management and Raglan
for all their support and hard work!
