Types of Accommodation

Raglan has a wide range of properties for rent. The type, design and size varies, depending on identified housing needs, scheme layouts and local planning and conservation requirements.

General housing

This forms the majority of our existing housing stock and current development programme and comprises houses, flats and bungalows. The majority of properties are two and three bedrooms, with a mix of one bedroom flats for couples and single people and some four and five bedroom houses for large or extended families. General family housing can be found in urban, inner city and rural areas and is mainly newly built with a variety of regenerated commercial or industrial buildings. Some properties are designed especially for wheelchair use. A full list of our general housing properties can be found in Raglan Properties.

Accommodation for Elderly People

This consists mostly of schemes more commonly known as sheltered housing. Generally these are one bedroom self contained flats with communal facilities for social gatherings. A resident manager lives on site and offers help and support, when needed, during 'office hours'. Each flat has a cord pull alarm connected to a helpline to provide emergency support and security during the time when the resident manager is not on duty. Some schemes have a resident manager that visits on a daily basis. Sheltered schemes are for couples and single people over 60. Also, Raglan has a number of schemes for the over 55s that have no resident manager support but offer the security of a 24 hour helpline. A full list of our accommodation for older people can be found in Raglan Properties. There may also be information of interest in Home Ownership for Elderly People.

Supported housing

These are housing schemes that provide accommodation and support for vulnerable residents. Raglan supplies and manages the support at several of them eg the Quay Foyer and the West Dorset Women's Refuge; elsewhere the support element is provided by specialist organisations, or charities such as Mencap, the Richmond Fellowship or the Autistic Society. Due to the specialist nature of these schemes there is no general application or nomination procedure.

Key worker homes
Raglan has a few rented homes that are specifically for people in key worker roles eg health, education, social services, emergency services. The term key worker can cover a variety of occupations and each scheme is designated to a particular group or groups, based on local needs, partnerships and funding arrangements. New schemes are usually promoted directly to the relevant employees, and applicants require approval from employers and the local authority to ensure they meet the housing need criteria. Raglan also provides key worker homes through a shared ownership initiative.
